A Quadball Pitch

Quadball is the most popular Sport on the planet of Gaban. It was brought by the Shinto peoples from St. Bishop and has spread to every corner of the planet. The game is played all over the planet on one very long and distinct Season. The largest stadium is in St. Bishop.

Quadball in the empire is controlled by the Imperial Quadball League. There are smaller leagues like the minor leagues and younger child leagues. The headquarters of Quadball is in the Emperor Jonathan I. Velez Quadball Stadium. There are smaller branches in the SBT-Acatolo Brodcasting Building and in smaller cities.

Quadball is brocasted on SBT-Acatolo Brocasting Co.'s channel 6,654. It is also on Acatolo Brodcasting Co.'s channel 414. It is called the National Quadball Televison Network (NQTN) or (NQTV). There is one league, the Imperial Quadball League, representing Four Divisions under Two Conferences. They are the North East, South East, North West, and the South West. At one point a 5th division was consdiered for the Central Region of the United Kingdom, but it was decided unjust as the Gainese had no territory in the center. The Best team in the entire planet are the St. Bishop Gryphons, named after the official animal and symbol of the city and Empire.

History

No one can be sure how or when the Sport of Quadball began. According to the Big Book of Ancient Gabanian Fables the Mother Goddess Pallas Athena gave her children a ball to play with and thus began the sport known as Quadball. The Game is a religious sport and is played during festivals and religious holidays. The Game is played over 5 hours.

Rules and Regulations

The Rules and Regulations of Quadball have been established over the eons by the Imperial Quadball League. All Quadball leagues follow the rules and regulations known as the Most Imperial Noble and Ancient Rulebook.

  • Before each game takes place a religious ceremony shall take place with Priest or Priestesses blessing the team and field before the beginning of each game followed by the National Anthem.
  • The Game of Quadball shall be played on a field of grass whence shall be forth known as a Pitch. A Quadball Pitch shall have a field of grass grown naturally and cut to no shorter than 2 Yotep and no higher than 4 Yotep. At each end zone near the goal post, the Goals shall be split between a small crescent shaped patch of fine sand. The exact colour shall depend on the region the pitch is built. It shall not be deep as to not injure any players.
  • The End Zone shall have 3 goal post at each end. Split in half by a Midfield which shall have a circular symbol of white to divide sides of the teams at play.
  • The Tallest Goal Post shall be no higher than 10 Seacrates tall. A shot or kick of the Quadball through this post grants you 20 points. The Second Post shall stand at no more than 8 Seacrates Tall this Post shall be worth 15 points for every shot or kick through it's hole. The shortest post shall be 5 Seacrates Tall and any goal or kick scoring points to be received are 10 points.
  • A Game shall last 300 Minutes separated in two halves of 150 minute periods. Which in it's self shall be further divided by two quarters in each half encompassing 4 Quarters of play. Each quarter shall last 75 minutes. At each 75 minute interval, there shall be a short break of 15 minutes of stoppage time to rest the players. At the 150 Minute mark, the game shall reach halftime at which a 30 minute break shall take place and a change of direction of goal post shall be observed by the teams. If one starts at one end of the pitch, they must end up on the other side of the pitch. At the end of the game the team with the most points wins. Should they tie, the teams may take a 15 minute break and return to the field at their original post for a period of 30 Minutes of Extra Overtime. Should the teams remain in a tie, one more Period of 30 Minutes shall be granted of Extra Overtime. At the end of the extra hour, should the teams remain tied a Penalty shall take place in which all the players must attempt from 10 Tosh Throw, Hit or Kick a Goal into the Tallest Goal Post this shall continue until a player on either team misses a goal.
  • The Tallest Goal Post shall be named a Athena's Crown. The Second Tallest Athena's Flower, and the smallest Goal Post shall be called Athenas Foot.
  • Each Team shall be granted 30 players at any one time on the field per Period. They may switch players between plays or running of the Quadball. But no more than 30 players may be on the pitch at any time. Should a player accidentally be on the Pitch at the time in this scenario 31 players instead of 30. That player shall cost their team a penalty of having one man stripped from their team for a period of 10 minutes. Caution must always be made to avoid having too many players on the pitch at one time.
  • A team shall have one Goal Tender known as a Goal Keeper or Goalie, in ancient times he or she was known to be Athena's Keeper. The Goalies job is to prevent the opposing team from scoring by any means necessary. A Goalie in times of dire need may run the pitch if falling behind leaving an empty net. A goalie is to be granted a broomstick which is to be used as a defense to block any attempts at Athena's Crown Goal Post and or any of the other Post. A Goalie during normal play is the only person allowed to touch a shot with the broomstick, any player caught doing so is to be penalized.
  • A team shall have 4 Enforcers. Their Job is to block any attacks on players from the 4 Chasers whose job it is, is to chase the 12 Midfielders who can score goals. Chasers use hard rubber balls known as PokPok to beat down on Midfielders. The 4 Enforcers are armed with protective gear and clubs to prevent that the PokPok reach the Midfielders. The Last 10 Players are 5 Defenders whose job is to protect the Goalie known as Keepers of the Goals they are not allowed to touch the sand pit of the Goalies. Any instance of them reaching the sand is cause for a penalty. There are 3 Hawkers, whose job is to be able to kick the Quadball across the pitch to other players. 1 Fola is a player who's job is to be the final players companion on the left flank. The Final Player is a Striker who's job is to be the top scoring player who always plays up in front of the goalies. Besides Goalies, Strikers are the only players able to stand on the Sand surrounding the goals. Not moving from the sand creates them being a target for the Chasers PokPok's.
  • Penalty's are granted to infractions of these rules. For Example too many players on the pitch at one time, unnecessary roughness on players. Targeting of the Chasers on the heads of players will receive an automatic ejection from the game through the Card System. Yellow Card serves as a first warning. A Second warning causes for a Red Card to be received which causes the player to be ejected from the game for one half, should it occur in the last half of a game, the infraction carries over and a player may not play the first half of the next upcoming game. The Final Card shall be a Purple Card which calls that a player is removed from the pitch, game, and may not play the next game regardless of where the game is to be held.
  • Under the Laws, the two basic states of play during a game are ball in play and ball out of play. From the beginning of each playing period with a kick-off until the end of the playing period, the ball is in play at all times, except when either the ball leaves the field of play, or play is stopped by the referee. When the ball becomes out of play, play is restarted by one of eight restart methods depending on how it went out of play:
    • Kick-off: following a goal by the opposing team, or to begin each period of play.
    • Throw-in: when the ball has crossed the touchline; awarded to the opposing team to that which last touched the ball.
    • Goal kick: when the ball has wholly crossed the goal line without a goal having been scored and having last been touched by a player of the attacking team; awarded to defending team.
    • Corner kick: when the ball has wholly crossed the goal line without a goal having been scored and having last been touched by a player of the defending team; awarded to attacking team.
    • Indirect free kick: awarded to the opposing team following "non-penal" fouls, certain technical infringements, or when play is stopped to caution or dismiss an opponent without a specific foul having occurred. A goal may not be scored directly (without the ball first touching another player) from an indirect free kick.
    • Direct free kick: awarded to fouled team following certain listed "penal" fouls. A goal may be scored directly from a direct free kick.
    • Penalty kick: awarded to the fouled team following a foul usually punishable by a direct free kick but that has occurred within their opponent's penalty area.
    • Dropped-ball: occurs when the referee has stopped play for any other reason, such as a serious injury to a player, interference by an external party, or a ball becoming defective.
    • The Quadball is a ball that should measure in circumference 68 and 70 Yotep, a weight in the range of 410 to 450 Druze and a pressure between 0.6 and 1.1 Copa's at sea level. In the past the ball was made up of leather panels sewn together, with a latex bladder for pressurisation but modern balls at all levels of the game are now synthetic.
